Citizen Journalism: A Misinformation Tool

But this “citizen journalism” has a price… Social media is now bombarded with “tabloid” news purporting to be facts with no reliable sources. Hundreds of posts can literally destroy a person with the citizen journalist hiding under a fictitious name since “citizen journalism” has no code of ethics or guidelines to follow. There is no restriction, even with the libel law, that will make a citizen, specially with a fictitious name and identity, accountable to what he writes. The result, cyber bullying!

With the advent of social media as a “shout out” tool for the average citizens, it has also become a popular venue where citizens post news and events supplementing or even driving the mainstream journalism. 1. In the States as you likely know, the ‘real’ journalists have no ethics either other than to spread far leftist agendas and ideals which are in my view, not much different than what dictators of Europe did decades ago. Warping the minds of American youth to be conformists to government domination and dependence. They are a conformist bunch, going along with BS to save their jobs.

    1. I think only a few left who really do journalism in a professional way. Here in Manila, most of the media men are believed to be “mercenaries”. You can pay them to keep their mouth shut and you can pay them to glorify or sensationalize a non-sense news. Yup, it’s a material world as Madonna said.
